IGCT – a new power device

Thycon’s integrated gate turn-off thyristor (IGCT) is a high power thyristor device with gate-controlled turn-off like IGBT. Unlike IGBTs, which have power capabilities up to 0.6MVA, IGCT power capabilities exceed 20MVA and offer all the advantages of IGBTs and thyristors with less loss, better capability and easier use.

Where GTOs require special large and reverse gate current, the IGCT is self-contained and is triggered on or off via an optically isolated control signal.

Thycon has been utilising IGCTs to achieve superior performance under operating conditions
that thyristors or IGBTs may have previously been used to address. The devices have high voltage and current capability allowing generous over-rating and simple circuit-breaker protection.

Double-sided hockey puck construction enables double-sided cooling. Devices exceeding 3500 amperes and 6000 volts are readily available.

The technology is applied within Thycon equipment such as:
 Thycon Static Interrupters
Thycon Static Transfer Switches - STSi
Thycon Triplen Static Transfer Switches - TSTSi
